New Underwater Security Will Debut During All-Star Game

Ran on Evening news, July 9, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) - With Homeland Security and the FBI identifying underwater terrorism as a prime concern, a new sonar device will make its appearance outside AT&T Park during the All-Star game on July 11.

San Francisco will be one of the first cities to be protected by a sonar device called Coda Echoscope.

The gadget transmits 3D images in high-resolution from under the water to a monitor via sonar. To replace the tedious quadrant-by-quadrant search typically done by divers, the Echoscope will provide continual sweeps of an underwater area. If an unusual object is found a diver will then be sent down to investigate.

Tech reporter Gabe Slate will have more on this during the KRON 4 nightly news.
